About SaffasUS.com

A place to find, support, and celebrate South Africans in the United States.

Why this exists

If you’re a South African living in the US, chances are you’ve seen it firsthand:
Talented Saffa business owners posting in Facebook groups, sharing what they do – only for those posts to disappear into busy feeds, often with little engagement or support.

There are thousands of South Africans living across the United States, many of whom have started businesses from scratch after immigrating. Some import authentic South African products. Others have completely reinvented themselves – becoming realtors, consultants, designers, marketers, craftspeople, and service providers in industries they may never have worked in back home.

Starting over is hard. Doing it without visibility or community support is even harder.

What SaffasUS is here to do

Social media is great for conversation – but it’s not designed to help people find businesses when they actually need them.

Posts get buried.
Recommendations get lost.
And there has never been one central place where South Africans in the US can intentionally find and support Saffa-owned businesses.

SaffasUS is that place.

This platform exists to:

• Make South African–owned businesses and service providers easier to discover.
• Give business owners lasting visibility beyond a single post.
• Encourage our community to support fellow Saffas, intentionally and consistently.
• Preserve a sense of connection, pride, and shared experience – even far from home.

Many of us had to rebuild careers, identities, and networks after moving to the US. This platform exists to make that journey feel a little less lonely – and a lot more connected.

What SaffasUS is

We provide a neutral platform where South African business owners can publish listings, sharing details of what they offer, tell their story, and be found by people who genuinely want to support them.

What SaffasUS is not

SaffasUS is not a marketplace.

We don’t sell products, take commissions, or earn referral fees.

Some listing categories are paid to help sustain and grow the platform and audience, while Classifieds and Events are free, ensuring accessibility for individuals and community-based listings.

A note from the founder - Franette Marais

Everyday I see South African business owners like myself trying to get traction through Facebook posts – often with little response, not because the businesses lack quality, but because visibility is fleeting.

SaffasUS was born from a simple idea:
What if supporting each other didn’t rely on timing, algorithms, or luck?

This site is my contribution toward creating something more permanent, more intentional, and more supportive for our community.

Let’s make SaffasUS.com the go-to hub to find and support Saffa businesses.

How you can support the community

You don’t need to own a business to make a difference.

• Browse the listings.
• Discover businesses, products and services you didn’t know were run/offered by fellow SAFFAS.
• Support a fellow SAFFA when you need a product or service.
• Message the Listing Owner directly from this site in real time should you have any questions.
• Make an effort to leave a positive review if you had a good experience.
• Share your favorite SAFFA listings on Social Media directly from this site.
• Share this site with others in your community.
• Hosting an event? Share it on SaffasUS for free.

Every single visit, recommendation, and connection helps.
